Nanaimo Drops Opener at BCPBL Championships

Nanaimo, BC (ISN) – The 4th seeded North Shore Twins continued their role as underdogs as they defeated the Nanaimo Pirates 8-4 in opening day action of the BC Premier Baseball League Final 4 Championships at Serauxmen Park in Nanaimo on Friday.

Twins’ catcher Riley MacDonald knocked in 5 runs with a grandslam, double, a sacrifice fly and a HBP. Clark Grisbrook went 3 for 4. For the Pirates, Brady Rogers went 2 for 2 with a home run and a double knocking in 2 runs and scoring 2. Twins pitcher Kyle Olver pitched a complete game to get the win.

In other action, the Okanagan A’s received a huge game from second baseman James Ward who went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs and a 3 run home run to defeat the Coquitlam Reds 13-3. Dallas Senger also went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, Nathan Ackerman 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Brandon Sonnenberg knocked in 3 runs. Starter Dillon Kakoshke picked up the win.

Action continues Saturday starting at as Okanagan takes on North Shore (10:00 am), Nanaimo faces Coquitlam (12:30pm), Coquitlam plays North Shore (3:00 pm) and Nanaimo battles Okanagan (5:30 pm).  The Championship final is set for Sunday at 12:30 pm.
