The Jr. B Provincial Lacrosse tournament is winding down at Bear Mountain Arena following the final two round robin games Saturday.

Delta Islanders improved their record to 2-1 with an 11-7 victory over the Saanich Tigers in Saturday’s morning action. Delta led 4-3 after the first period and things were tied up 7-7 after two but the Islanders scored 4 unanswered goals in the final period to get the win and move on to the gold medal game Sunday. Jesse Rumeo and Raymond Calderwood each had the hat trick and 1 assist for the Islanders and Rumeo was chosen the Delta MVP for the game. Saanich got a pair of goals from Ethan Garland and Trevor Hansen. Derek Jackson had a goal and 2 helpers to pick up the MVP of the game for the Tigers. Unfortunately the Tigers went 0-3 in the tournament and will face their local rivals, the Westshore Bears for the bronze medal.

In game 2, the Bears and the Kamloops Venom matched up in a tight defensive battle and it was Kamloops coming away with an 8-6 win. Kamloops finishes first with a record of 3 wins and 2 losses and will take on Delta in the gold/silver medal game Sunday. The Venom got a pair of goals each from Riley Donahue, Blaine Boomer and Braidy Jorgensen in the win. Jamie Forster was chosen Kamloops MVP of the game. Westshore got a gritty effort, coming back from a 7-4 second period deficit to get within a single goal before an empty netter salted things away at 19:33 of the final period. Chris O’Hara and James Spence each had a pair of goals, Spence also chipping in 2 assists. Adam Donald was named the game’s MVP for the Bears.

Tomorrow the action sets up this way:

10:00 am Bronze Medal game between Westshore Bears and Saanich Tigers

1:00 pm Gold/Silver Medal game between Kamloops Venom and Delta Islanders, both games at Bear Mountain Arena.

It has been a tremendous weekend of lacrosse, all teams have shown a great deal of skill and speed.
