BC Wrestler Snags Bronze at Olympics

Vancouver, BC  – Carol Huynh (48 kg) from Hazelton, BC has won a bronze medal on Day 12 of the 2012 London Olympics.

Huynh began her first match against Vietnamese wrestler Thi Lua Nguyen which she easily won by pinning her within 34 seconds of the start of the match. Carol, who lives and trains in Calgary, was challenged a little more in her second match against Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus, but still managed an impressive 6-0, 3-0 victory to move on to the semi-finals. In the semi finals, Huynh faced against top ranked Japanese wrestler Hitomi Obara where she lost a tough, and hardfought battle with a final score of 2-0 and 2-1.

Carol showed a lot of class in defeat and headed onto her bronze medal match against Isabelle Sambou of Senegal. In this final match, Huynh took advantage of 2 clinches to win her bronze medal.

Huynh is the first of five BC wrestlers to compete in the 2012 London Olympics. Below is the schedule of actions for BC wrestlers for the next 4 days.
