Victoria, BC (ISN) – The 90th R.P. Rithet Cup Playoffs kicked off on Friday night at Lambrick Park for the Victoria Mavericks Baseball League, with the #2 Padres taking to the field to battle the #3 Dodgers. The Dodgers prevailed 8-6 to stake a 1-0 lead in the best of three series. Kevin Pockett earned the win while Andrew Crowe took the loss.
Saturday saw two games on the schedule with the #1 Athletics opening their series with the #4 Braves. The Athletics got out to an early lead 2-0 lead, added another in the 4th to win 3-0 and take a 1-0 series lead. The win went to Shaun Loglisci while the loss was given to Max Valle.

Fans were almost treated to a triple play, with runners on 1st and 2nd Braves Jeremy Campbell line a shot that was snared by Athletics 1st baseman Jared Gale who turned an tagged the bag for the double play then threw down to 2nd base narrowly missing the rare feat. The Braves had a highlight play of their own in the 5th inning when the Athletics loaded the bases with none out, a deep shot to left field was caught by Tony Dill who fired a laser to the plate to nail the Athletic runner and record the double play.
The Athletics will be looking to close out the series at noon on Sunday for game 2 of the series.

The late game saw the continuation of the Dodgers/Padres series. With their playoff lives’ the Padres sent Jordan Will to the mound with the Dodgers countering with Dustin Robertis.
The Padres got out to a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning then a 2 run homerun off the bat of Scott Caldwell opened up a 3-0 lead after 4 innings of play. The Dodgers finally got the bats working in the 5th when they cut the lead to 1 with a pair of runs.

The Dodgers completed the rally in the bottom of the 7th inning when Leighton Marshall hit a walk off single that scored 2 giving the Dodgers a 4-3 win and a spot in the R.P. Rithet finals starting on Tuesday.
