Victoria, BC (ISN) – A seven run fourth inning helped the Dodgers overcome an early 4-1 deficit and cruise to an 11-4 darkness shortened victory over the Athletics in the first game of the 90th annual Rithet Cup Championship of the Mavericks Men’s Baseball League at Lambrick Park Tuesday evening.
After both teams exchanged runs on errors in the first inning, the A’s would get the jump in the bottom of the second, as an errant pick off throw to first by Dodger starter Jared Roberts, allowed Jared Gale to move all the way to third, where he then scored on a Adam Kerr ground out.

The A’s would add to that lead in the bottom of the third, scoring a pair of runs on the strength of a double by Jarrod Birch and a 2-RBI single from Mike Strandlund.

Just when it looked like the A’s and their starting pitcher Shawn Brand were on their way to an easy win, the Dodger bats came alive to score seven runs in the top of the fourth inning, six of which came with two outs. Contributing to the damage in the inning were Leighton Marshall with an RBI ground rule double, Connor Moughton with an RBI single, and Kevin Seginowich and Ray Seginowich with a 2-RBI single and 2-RBI double respectively.

The Dodgers would add to that 8-4 lead in the top of the fifth inning, as Kyle Pockett would lead-off with a walk and eventually score on a wild pitch, while Marshall would add a 2-run homerun off reliever Kyle Long that scored himself and Jake Salter who had also walked earlier.

With darkness approaching, the A’s would rally in the bottom of the inning to load the bases, only to see the Dodgers turn a clutch, inning-ending double play to get out of trouble.
After that, both sides were retired with ease in the 6th and at that point, home plate umpire Jay Longpre called the game due to darkness, thus giving the Dodgers the 11-4 win.
