Victoria, BC (ISN) – After a solid win at home against the Kamloops Broncos last weekend, the Westshore Rebels extended their winning record to 3-1 by beating the troubled Chilliwack Huskers 58-0 Sunday afternoon at Bear Mountain Stadium.
The Westshore Rebels took to the field Sunday with a “quieter than normal” confidence, knowing that they were playing a team that has yet to win a game this season. With that confidence, Rebels QB Mark Black would hand the reins to Rebels top gun RB Greg Morris, running through the Huskers defense on his way to two first quarter touchdowns including a 65 yard catch and run play down the side lines with 10:22 remaining in the quarter.

Spending most of the quarter in the Huskers side of the field, Black would finish the quarter with a 22 yard strike to #7 Cat Todorovich. The Rebels, not holding back, would finish the quarter on a Husker QB sack by defensive end Wyatt Gray. Greg Morris would add another touchdown to his resume late in the second quarter to give his team a 32-0 lead.

The Huskers QB Braden Churley would take the field at the start of the second half with a sense of urgency, as his passing would look crisper and on target taking his team finally into Rebels territory. Unfortunately the Husker receivers, perhaps hearing footsteps of the Rebels secondary, found trouble hanging onto the ball. The Rebels defensive line seemed to punish any Husker close to the ball, with QB Churley finding himself at the bottom of a Rebels defensive tackle often in the 2nd half.

The Rebels would eventually show a weakness in the 3rd quarter when they turned the ball over on downs from the Husker 1 yard line, after failing to score what seemed to be a sure touchdown. Although discipline would plaque the Rebels in the 2nd half, the Rebels’ Black, commanding his team downfield, would hook up with Greg Morris 3 more times for majors before the end of regulation time giving the Rebels a decisive and emphatic 58-0 win.

The Rebels go into next week with a bye, as all teams break for the holiday weekend. The Rebels take to the field next on Saturday September 8th in an away game against the 1-3 Okanagan Sun and return to home field September 16th against the Kamloops Broncos.
