Story by Jai Rakic, Photos and Video by Mark Yager (ISN)
Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Provincial Track Cycling Championships took place last weekend at the Juan de Fuca Velodrome, a facility that has recently been re-opened and is now proving its value to local cyclists both young and old. ISN’s photograher Mark Yager was on hand along with reporter Jai Rakic to report on the details including a video interview with Dr. Wayne Walker, a key sponsor and avid cyclist.
The Commonwealth Legacy Velodrome in Colwood hosted the 70 plus competing cyclists for the BC Track Championships last weekend.
The Greater Victoria Velodrome Association (GVAA) organised the Championships, which were larger and more elaborate then prior years. The Championships had participants of all ages competing in multiple categories, from team sprint and team pursuit events to a keirin and individual sprint tournament.
Olympic medalist Gillian Carelton was also on site helping out event organisers and riders as well as presenting winners with their well-earned medals.
The Provincial Championships were a great podium for riders to showcase their skills and prepare for the Canadian Championships that are coming up in September.
ISN’s Mark Yager also caught up with Dr. Wayne Walker, a participant in the Master’s event and a sponsor of the event, to discuss the importance of the JDF track for Victoria cyclists. You can watch that video below.
