Nanaimo, BC (ISN) – The Victoria Cougars skated to a 2-2 tie with the Nanaimo Buccaneers in VIJHL pre-season action on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the Harbour City.

Scoring for the Cougars were Nathan Chen-Mack and Sam Rice. Thor Rosback and Garrett Dunlop replied for Nanaimo.

And it would be Rosback, whose shot from the point at 15:02 of the first period would open the scoring. But Victoria would draw even 28 seconds later when Chen-Mack converted a Wade Johnson cross ice pass into a goal.

The score remained deadlocked until the 3:08 mark of the second period. From the left faceoff dot, Rice beat Riley Medves far side to give the Cougars the lead.

Yet again, any lead was not safe. Just over a minute later, Daniel Foglietta set up Dunlop whose one timer from the slot beat Evan Roch. Jesse Sidaway, who replaced Roch at the 10:25 mark of the second period, kept Nanaimo off the score sheet.

200 feet away, Medves went the distance for the Buccaneers.

Victoria completed the preseason with a record of 1-0-1; meanwhile, Nanaimo finished 0-1-1.

Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Cougars open their 2012-13 regular season schedule on the road against the Kerry Park Islanders on Saturday, September 8 while the Buccaneers open Thursday at home against Comox.
