Burnaby, B.C. – The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey program has announced this year’s University Hockey Classic, a showcase event which started during the 2011/12 season as a two-game exhibition series between SFU and UBC.

This year’s event takes place on September 21st at UBC’s Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at 7:00pm, and on September 22nd at SFU’s Bill Copeland Arena at 7:00pm. Tickets for both games will be available at the door.

Nearly 1600 fans witnessed SFU win the inaugural event at Bill Copeland Arena, needing a overtime and a shootout to beat UBC after the two teams each won their respective home game. Students from both universities enjoy a healthy rivalry between the schools, a rivalry which has grown significantly in past years with the success of the Shrum Bowl football game.
