The BC Track Provincials were held at the Greater Victoria Velodrome last weekend and Pacific Cycling Centre athletes recorded some good results. The three-day event produced some exciting competition for all races.
Alex Amiri finished first in the U17 Match sprint, 2nd in the Omnium with two points down, 3rd in the Individual Pursuit, and first in the Team Sprint. Even Carey, in the U19 category, won the Omnium and Keirin and was 2nd in the Match Sprint. Andrew Grant, also in U19 won the Match Sprint and was second in the Keirin.
“This was one of the best turn-outs in U17 and U15 races,” said Houshang Amiri, Head Coach of the Pacific Cycling Centre. “With the support of local teams like Russ Hays and Cycling BC, we can take the momentum to the next level and double the participants next year.”
Olympic Bronze Medalist Gillian Carleton was at the track championships talking to the younger athletes and signing autographs. “It was a great boost to have her here on the weekend,” added Amiri.
