VANCOUVER – Over 300 athletes took to the pitch to represent British Columbia this past season in one of BC Rugby’s most exciting summers to date. Our provincial teams traveled as far south as Northern California and as far east as Quebec with 10 programs in action.

The U19, U18 , and U16 men’s teams went undefeated at their national championships while additional tournaments were won by the U14 boys and BC Elite Youth Sevens provincial teams. Adding to the medal haul were the senior women’s reps with a silver medal performance at the 2012 NWL Finals and the U16 men’s ‘Blue’ and U18 women’s teams each came home with bronze medals.

“This year was extremely busy from a provincial programming perspective with the added inclusion of U15 Boys, U17 men’s and U23 men’s initiatives, all of which would not have been possible without the dedicated volunteers which help run our teams,” said BC Provincial Coach and Development Manager Dave Brown. “The U14 Boys had a successful trip to Ontario, the four teams at the National Age Grade Championships had outstanding medal performances and games for the TrueBlue U15 Boys and U17 Men against NorCal Reps were beneficial from a development and engagement standpoint, as was the reintroduction of the U23 Men’s program. Overall, we involved almost 300 athletes and I hope we can look to sustain and expand this number over future seasons.”

Over 40 coaches, managers and athletic therapists were instrumental in fielding the provincial teams and several more dedicated their time at the B2God Provincial Regional Championships where over 500 athletes battled for division titles and put their hands up for selection to BC’s teams.

Up next on the rugby calendar we have the launch of the fall clubs season, the Saratoga Cup and the Rugby Canada women’s combine at UBC. See the links below for more information.
