Victoria, BC – The puck is set to drop on the 45th season of Saanich Braves Junior B hockey this Friday, September 7th as the Braves take on the Kerry Park Islanders at 6:30 pm at Pearkes Arena.
As part of the team’s anniversary celebrations the first 45 fans through the doors will receive a Saanich Braves cowbell to help cheer on the team during their first 2012-13 VIJHL regular season game at George R. Pearkes Arena.
“We are looking forward to a packed house this Friday,” Advertising and Promotions Manager Kristy-Lynn Carlson said. “Braves fans are in for an exciting season both on and off the ice.”
Before the game, Red Barn Market will be hosting a Tailgate party for fans starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Pearkes parking lot.
The on-ice festivities prior to the Game will feature player introductions set to 1967 hit music and the on-ice cheque presentation of the proceeds of last week’s Cops for Cancer fundraiser to Kevin Nunn.
Friday night’s tickets are sponsored by the Braves Official Photographer Christian J. Stewart and will include a code for a 10% discount off any order placed on line at www.christianjstewart.zenfolio.com. Some of Christian’s great Braves action shots will also be on display and available for purchase in the Pearkes lobby on Friday night during the home opener.
The Braves will be looking to build upon the great success they had in 2011-2012 under Head Coach Brad Cook and boast a line-up that features the return of last year’s league leading scorer Ty Jones, as well as a core of returning offensive threats in Andrew White, Shawn McBride, and Sam McMullen. They will be supported by the grit and hustle of returning forwards Sam Johnston and Josh McGladery and the addition of Nick Kapusty from the Osoyoos Coyotes. Added to this mix will be rookie Nick Guerra (already enjoying offensive success in the pre-season) and Seamus Maguire.
On the back end, the Braves see the return of defencemen Brandon Parmar, Liam Sproule, and Jordan Groenhyde who will provide leadership to newcomers Kevin Massy, and Tom Dakers. In net, the Braves see the return of stalwart Tanner McGaw and back-up Bowman Rutledge.
“Our camp has gone really well and I am excited to get the season going,” noted Head Coach Cook. “There are some players that have really impressed me that I didn’t expect would, especially the newcomers like Nick Guerra and Seamus Maguire. Bowman Rutledge looked good in our tournament the other weekend, which was nice to see and he will push Tanner which is great. Our expectations are high this year and the kids know that, so they want to deliver and make this a great season for us.”
Braves’ fans next chance to catch their team in action is Wednesday Sep. 12th, when the Peninsula Panthers visit Pearkes Arena. Fans can get in on the 45th season action by purchasing season tickets, available for $150 for adults, $120 for seniors and $90 for children. Season tickets will be available at the home opener and every Braves home game or by calling 250 -590-3663.
