Kelowna, BC (ISN) – Victoria Royals goaltender Patrik Polivka stoped 28 shots en route to a 3-2 shootout win over the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Saturday night saw the Victoria Royals make the trip to Kelowna, BC to face the Rockets for a pre-season test at Prospera Place. The Royals sent veteran netminder Keith Hamilton between the pipes while the Rockets countered with Jordon Cooke.

The Rockets would hit the scoreboard first in this one as Zach Franko gave the team a one-goal lead 4:51 into the opening frame. Kelowna would go on to add another marker from Tyson Baillie late in the period to skate into the first intermission with a 2-0 edge.

After an early missed powerplay opportunity by the Rockets, neither team could alter the score line for most of the second period. Patrik Polivka would take over in the Royals’ net for Hamilton at the midway point of the game and it would be defenceman Jordan Fransoo who would get Victoria’s scoring started. With just 47 seconds remaining in the second, Fransoo notched his first of the pre-season, an unassisted strike, to cut the Rockets lead to one before the middle stanza drew to a close.

The third period saw the Royals even the score by the 5:17 mark. Kelowna area native Luke Harrisson scored his first from Mike Forsyth and Ryan Gagnon level the game. The Rockets peppered Polivka with pucks in the Royals’ net in the latter half of the third period, but the Czech Republic native stood tall between the pipes. Regulation would fail to provide a victor and the game headed to overtime.

Overtime saw the Royals’ penalty kill unit deny the Rockets, but neither team could find the twine, sending the game to a shootout. After the first Kelowna shooter failed to score, Logan Nelson beat Cooke to give Victoria the edge. Polivka would then turn away the next Rocket, giving Brandon Magee a chance to win the game. Magee made no mistake and the Royals took home their second win of the pre-season. In a shootout, Victoria 3 Kelowna 2.

Victoria went 0/3 = 0.0% on the powerplay, while Kelowna was 0/4 = 0.0%. The Rockets outshot the Royals 41-22.
