Winnipeg and Saskatchewan Battle to Draw

Winnipeg (ISN) – The Winnipeg Wesmen and Saskatchewan Huskies battled to a 2-2 draw in the inaugural CIS men’s soccer match for the home town Wesmen, Friday evening at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.

Both teams had quality scoring opportunities in the opening half but the score was deadlocked at 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, the scoring came fast and furious. Second year striker Brett Levis (Saskatoon, SK) opened the scoring in the 64th minute on a bullet shot that just was out of the reach of Wesmen goalkeeper Tyson Farago.

Winnipeg made a substitution soon after and it paid off. Yiannis Tsalatsidis (Winnipeg, MB) came off the bench and tied the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 72nd minute.

The huskies replied soon after in the 82nd minute as Brett Levis scored his second goal of the match to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

Dramatics soon came for the Wesmen. In extra time Scott Ansell put in a rebound off a Kenny Sacramento free kick to tie the score at 2-2.

The Wesmen and Huskies will both travel to Saskatoon for Sunday’s match to wrap up the opening weekend home and home series.
