Chargers host 6th Annual Tip-Off Fundraiser featuring Canadian Women’s Rugby Sevens vet, Julianne Zussman

September 13, 2012, Victoria, BC (ISN) – Join the Camosun College Chargers men’s and women’s basketball coaches and student-athletes for an evening of food, entertainment and fundraising at the Chargers 6th Annual Tip-Off Dinner at the Harbour Towers Hotel on Friday, September 28th.

This year, the Chargers are pleased to present Julianne Zussman, veteran member of the world’s top-ranked Canadian National Women’s Rugby team and Rio de Janerio 2016 Olympics hopeful.

Julianne has been a dedicated member of the Canadian Women’s Rugby Sevens Team since 2007 and she is currently training to represent Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio where rugby sevens will make its inaugural appearance. The team recently won its regional zone qualifying tournament to earn a spot in the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup for women scheduled for next June in Moscow.

Julianne has represented Canada at numerous international matches throughout Europe, Asia and North America during her playing with the Canadian national team. After playing the majority of her rugby career in Montreal, she relocated to Victoria one year ago to pursue further her goals with the national team which is currently centralized at its new training facility in Langford. This past December Julianne was a member of the Canadian team which won the International Rugby Board (IRB) Challenge Cup and earned Canada the number-one world ranking at the time.

Despite having a busy training and competition schedule, Julianne is a great example of how a person can balance school, work and playing sports at an international level at the same time. In 2011, Julianne completed a Masters degree in Sport Administration and Technology from the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland. She currently works as an intern at the Canadian Sport Centre Pacific in Victoria and continues to be passionate about building a career helping Canada’s athletes achieve their goals.

The Chargers 6th Annual Tip-Off Dinner Fundraiser begins at 5:30pm with a no-host bar and musical reception performed by the Quelus Duo. Guests will also be treated to a full buffet dinner which will be followed by Julianne Zussman’s presentation and the chance to bid on an array of exciting live and silent auction items.

Tickets for the event are $150 per person and include a $75 tax receipt. Corporate tables are available.

The Camosun College Chargers would like to thank the generous sponsors of this event including Out of the Blue Designs, the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence, Robbins Parking Services, Centaur Products, South Vancouver Island Basketball Association and Wilson’s Transportation.

All proceeds from the Tip-Off Dinner event will support the Camosun Chargers men’s and women’s basketball student-athlete scholarship fund.
