September 14, 2012, Kennewick, WA- The Tri-City Americans (2-4) struggled in their final home pre-season game, and Colin Valcourt scored two goals and an assist for the Spokane Chiefs (5-1) on their way to a 4-2 victory.

Valcourt got Spokane started late in the first, putting it past Eric Comrie. The Americans had eight shots on Chiefs’ goalie Eric Williams, but couldn’t get one by as Spokane led 1-0 after the first period.

Tri-City’s struggles continued in the second period, putting 14 shots on net but not getting any by Williams or Mac Engel. Spokane would add another goal off a faceoff that Adam Helewka put past Comrie. Late in the period, Tanner Mort slapped a shot from the point, with Comrie making the save, but Valcourt put home the rebound for his second goal of the game and making the score 3-0 going into the third period.

Spokane would add another at the beginning of the third, with Brenden Kichton shooting a one timer into the top left corner of the goal on the power play to make it 4-0. The Americans finally got on the board when Parker Wotherspoon hit a slap shot from the point, and Lucas Nickles grabbed the rebound and put it past Engel. Tri-City would score again late in the period with Justin Feser skating through the Spokane defense and slipping the puck into the net to bring the Americans within two.

Comrie came off for the extra skater with about a minute and a half left in the game, but the Ams offense couldn’t generate a goal as the game ended.

Comrie saved 13 shots in 58:38 minutes of work. Williams saved all 19 shots he faced, and Engel saved 11-of-13 in relief.
