September 19, 2012, Saskatoon, SK (ISN) – For the third straight weekend, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie men’s soccer team will look to gain points in the standings against a new team to the Canada West.

The Mount Royal University Cougars – who joined the Winnipeg Wesmen and UNBC Timberwolves as new schools in the conference – hit Saskatoon Saturday and Sunday.

Saskatchewan (2-0-1) enters the weekend sitting second in the Prairie Division with seven points. Mount Royal, who is also in the Prairie Division, has yet to win a match at 0-4. The Huskie opened the season with a tie and win over the Winnipeg Wesmen and added another win last weekend against the Timberwolves.

With a young roster on the pitch, the Huskies’ first and second year players have stepped up to make key plays in the matches. Striker and 2011 conference all-star Brett Levis tallied both goals in the tie against Winnipeg, while rookie Wilson Ntigne added the lone goal in the win over Winnipeg. Rookie midfielder Mitch Bauche scored the lone goal against UNBC with a boot from 30 yards out. Veteran keeper Mark Diakiw has also been a key component in the Huskies’ undefeated streak making 17 saves and allowing just two goals.

A standout program in the ACAC, Mount Royal captured 13 provincial titles and three national championships. The Cougars feature a blend of 12 returning players and 12 newcomers including 2011-12 ACAC All-Star Sean Colvin. He scored a team-best six goals last year. Mount Royal’s one-two offensive punch also again includes midfielder Caden Sawatzky, who record five goals last year in Pollack’s defensive-first system.

Mount Royal has failed to score a goal in their four matches losing 7-0 and 4-0 to the Alberta Golden Bears in Week 1, before dropping 3-0 and 2-0 matches to the Winnipeg Wesmen last weekend.

Match times are 2:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park. For tickets, call 966-1111 or visit huskies.usask.ca
