September 24, 2012, VICTORIA – As one of the many activities scheduled for the University of Victoria’s 50th anniversary celebration and the University of Victoria Vikes’ Homecoming weekend Sept. 28 – 29, former Vike, UVic almnus and Olympic rower Mike Lewis, will be speaking about his journey to the Beijing Olympics.
Originally from Victoria, Lewis began to row in his grade 12 year after two Olympic rowers visited his high school. Lewis then rowed for the Vikes for five years and graduated from the University of Victoria in 2006 with a bachelor’s of science.
In 2008 at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, Lewis was a member of the Canadian fours lightweight crew that rowed to a bronze medal finish.
On Sept. 29, Lewis will contribute to “Alumni Talks,” hour-long sessions hosted by UVic alumni as they provide insight on a variety of subjects in their respective fields. Entitled “My Olympic Journey,” Lewis will share the details of his rowing career and his rise to the Olympic podium.
Lewis will be speaking on Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Social Sciences and Math Building in Room A120.
