September 24, 2012, Langley, BC – Volleyball Canada and the Langley Event Centre have received notice that Venezuela has withdrawn its entry in the inaugural U-23 Pan American Men’s Volleyball Cup taking place at the Langley Event Centre Sept. 25-30, 2012.
Citing both visa and travel issues, Venezuela informed Volleyball Canada late Friday that they were unable to travel and attend the event.
The U-23 Pan American Cup will now continue with the remaining five participating countries: Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Canada, being represented by the Trinity Western University Spartans. The schedule will be adjusted now with two matches per day, still from September 25-30, with the teams competing in a complete round robin format plus a final playoff day.
Revised Event Schedule (all of Canada’s round robin games start at 8:00 p.m.)
Sept. 25 – 6pm Dominican Republic vs Argentina; 8pm Canada vs. Mexico
Sept. 26 – 6pm Argentina vs Mexico; 8pm Brazil vs Dominican Republic
Sept. 27 – 6pm Brazil vs Argentina; 8pm Canada vs. Dominican Republic
Sept. 28 – 6pm Mexico vs Dominican Republic; 8pm Canada vs. Brazil
Sept. 29 – 6pm Brazil vs Mexico; 8pm Canada vs. Argentina
Sept. 30 – 3pm Bronze Medal Match; 5pm Gold Medal Match
The U-23 Pan American Cup will feature some of the very best volleyball-playing countries in the Americas. The event will feature the stars of tomorrow, with many potential competitors on their way to
eventually representing their countries at the senior level.

About the U-23 Pan American Cup
The U-23 Pan American Cup is a new competition created jointly by the NORCECA (North America, Central America & Caribbean) and the South American Volleyball Confederations, and will feature the top teams from these zones. The event has been developed to provide an additional competitive opportunity for developing national team players who may be on the cusp of making their first appearances with their respective country’s senior level national teams. Athletes must be born in 1990 or later to be eligible to compete.
