WATERLOO, Ont. – The Waterloo cross country team had animpressive showing at their home course during the Don Mills Openon Saturday on the north campus. On the women’s side,Waterloo finished 1, 2, 3 to claim top spot as a team in the fieldof seven teams. The men finished third overall with the HOHRunning Academy claiming top spot while Laurier earned second.
Waterloo’s Kristen Flanagan (Kitchener) continued to show hergolden stride capturing first overall for the second time in threeyears with a time of 18:33 in the 5km race. Teammate HeatherDimond (Orangeville) was only nine seconds behind, completing thecourse in 18:41. Karina Sils (Oakville) rounded out thedominating performance by the Warriors with a third place finishafter running a time of 18:45. Stephanie Hinton (Brantford)finished in the top 15 with her 14th place finish with a time of19:47.
Top runners for the men included fourth year chemical engineeringstudent Patrick MacKinnon (Mount Hope) who finished the 7.5kmcourse in a time of 24:32 good for a 10th place finish. DavidStewart (Mason) wasn’t too far behind in 13th spot with a time of24:50. Rookie runner Brent Scheibelhut (Etobicoke) roundedout the top three Warrior finishers with an 18th place finish(25:07).
The Warriors are back at it next weekend at the Guelph Open onSaturday, October 13.
