October 2, 2012, EDMONTON – UBC women’s soccer forward Janine Frazao and Saskatchewan men’s hockey forward Kyle Bortis are Canada West Athletes of the Week.

UBC forward Janine Frazao, the reigning Canada West scoring champion, scored five goals on the weekend, helping her the Thunderbirds to two wins over the weekend.

On Friday night against Saskatchewan, she assisted on UBC’s second goal of the game before scoring herself right before halftime to put her team up 3-0. Frazao then ended the night with another assist, on the T-Birds’ fourth goal as the team earned a 4-0 shutout. The next night, Frazao was simply spectacular, finding the back of the net four times in just 23 minutes of play as unranked UBC defeated #9 Regina 6-0.

Frazao now ranks among the conference’s best all-time women’s soccer student-athletes, with 41 goals and 47 points in three-plus seasons.

The next two games for #10-ranked UBC (6-1) will be on the road. They will face #8 Alberta (4-0-2) in Edmonton on Saturday, Oct. 6 and unranked Mount Royal (0-4-2) in Calgary on Sunday, Oct. 7.
