Vikes in fourth after first round of NAIA Fall Preview

October 2, 2012, VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team finished their first round of the NAIA Fall Preview in Salem, Oregon, tied for fourth place. On the individual leaderboard, Samuel Holland (New Minas, NS) fired the lowest round of the day for the Vikes with a plus three and in sixteenth place.

Fellow Vike Sean Hay (Victoria, BC) tied for seventeenth at plus four, carding a 76. Sitting in first place is University of British Columbia Thunderbird Kieran Standen with a score of 69.

Playing the 6887-yard par-72 Creekside Golf Course, the Vikes men posted a team score of 308 in the first round, tying for fourth place and finishing day one fourteen strokes back from third-place Concordia University.

First-year Jesse Teron (Red Deer, AB) carded a 78 to end the day tied for 24th while fourth-year James Holland (New Minas, NS) is tied for 26th with a score of 79. Rounding out the UVic contingent is sophomore Jamie Cartwright (Canmore, AB), shooting an 82 on the first eighteen and currently tied for 38th.

The Vikes men will play their final round of the NAIA Fall Preview tomorrow, Oct. 2.
