October 3, 2012, VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team played their final round of the NAIA Fall Preview at Creekside Golf Course in Salem, Ore. and have finished in fourth place on the team leaderboard, 27 strokes back of first-place team Texas Wesleyan University.

The best Vikes showing came from fourth-year Samuel Holland (New Minas, NS), carding a two-day score of 150 and firing a 75 each round.

“We didn’t play great, we struggled a little bit,” said Vikes men’s head coach Bryan Carbery. “It’s a fairly tough course, a good test to golf.”

In last year’s NAIA Fall Preview event the Vikes finished in eighth place and this year, finishing fourth, were travelling without some of their top recruits. Also in competition, the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds finished second with a score of 598.

Vike Sean Hay (Victoria, BC) shot an 81 in the final round and finished at 24th while fourth-year James Holland (New Minas, NS) shot an 80 in his final eighteen and wrapped up the tournament tied for 26th alongside fellow Vike Jesse Teron (Red Deer, AB), who shot an 81. Tied for 30th, Jamie Cartwright (Canmore, AB) shot a 79 for a tournament score of 161.

Next up for the Vikes men is a trip to San Diego where they will play the California State University San Marcos Invite at Twin Oaks golf course in San Marcos, Oct. 14 – 16.
