October 3, 2012, Saskatoon, SK – The University of Saskatchewan Huskie cross country team will compete for the lone time in the 2012 season at home Saturday in Saskatoon’s Lakewood Park.
Canada West athletes from the University of Regina Cougars, University of Manitoba Bisons, University of Alberta Golden Bears/Pandas, University of Calgary Dinos, as well as the Huskies will compete to help prepare their legs for the grand prize Canada West/CIS Championship in November. The UofS Open is the second meet on the Canada West non-conference cross country circuit.
Registration for the race begins at 10 a.m. The women’s four and a half kilometer race begins at 12:15 p.m., while the men’s seven and a half kilometer race begins at 12:45 p.m.
Emmett & Graeme Harrison are identical twins. Emmett ran with the Huskies last year on both the cross country and track & field teams. Graeme transferred to the UofS from the University of Regina for 2012.
Well-decorated Huskie alum Jamie Epp and Jennifer Souter are working with the team as assistant coaches. Both help each athlete through their personal experiences and use motivational techniques they learned from legendary coach Lyle Sanderson.
Gabrielle Edwards will be missing the UofS Open to train and attend the World Triathlon meet. She qualified in the summer after finishing in the top two at an international competition.
