Huskies Look to Get Back on Track in Women’s Soccer Action

October 4, 2012, Saskatoon, SK – After suffering two losses on the weekend, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s soccer team will return home to Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park to get back on the right track this weekend.

The University of Victoria Vikes visit Saskatoon on Saturday, followed by the University of Fraser Valley Cascades on Sunday.

Saskatchewan’s three match win streak was snapped after a 4-0 and 3-0 losses to the UBC Thunderbirds and Trinity Western Spartans on last weekend’s road trip. The pair of shutouts leaves the Huskies (3-3) in seventh in conference standings.

Undefeated Victoria (6-0-1) has already clinched one of eight conference playoff spots and has won six matches in a row. Fraser Valley has also been strong early in the season sitting in fourth with a 5-1-1 record.

Victoria has tallied multiple goals in all but one match this season. Emma Greig has provided the majority of the offence with an impressive 11 goals and three assists. Lindsay Hoetzel and Sarah Douglas each have tallied six and Jackie Harrison has four. Stephanie Parker has started all seven matches for the Vikes allowing just one goal against.

Allowing just five goals all season, Fraser Valley is a tough competitor. Carly Neeson has recorded four goals, while Donna Pinning and Paige Friesen have each scored three. Chantelle Biagioni has started all but one match for the Cascades in net making 19 saves and allowing just three goals.

The Huskies will look to strikers Lindsay Manz and Erica Hindmarsh, as well as captains Leanne Mylymok and Daniela Fuenzalida to help provide an offensive spark to get their team in the win column this weekend. All four have tallied two goals on the season. Lisa Evans and Marissa Struik have split time in net for the Huskies combining for 27 saves on the season.

Match time is Noon both Saturday and Sunday at Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park. For tickets, call 966-1111 or visit
