October 3, 2012, EVERETT – Despite outshooting Tri-City 35-22, the Everett Silvertips couldn’t solve Americans goaltender Eric Comrie in a tight 2-0 defeat Wednesday night at Comcast Arena. The loss comes days after Everett’s first win of the year and keeps the Silvertips winless at home so far this season.

Austin Lotz turned away 20 of the 22 shots he faced in goal for the ‘Tips, but the story of the game was Comrie, who stopped a number of quality scoring chances on the way to his fourth career shutout. Everett outshot Tri-City 18-4 in the third period alone on their way to outshooting an opponent for the first time this year.

Everett had scoring chances, but Tri-City got on the board first in the opening period. On the powerplay, Malte Stromwall carried the puck through the middle and fired a low shot to the corner of the net behind Lotz. The Silvertips weren’t able to convert a powerplay of their own later in the period, leaving the score at 1-0 heading into the second frame.

The Tips’ had multiple scoring opportunities in the second, including a lengthy two-man advantage powerplay, but Comrie stood on his head for Tri-City to preserve their one goal lead. Everett was on the offensive attack in the third and registered a whopping 18 shots on goal, however Comrie stopped each one to preserve the shutout. The Americans added another goal halfway through the period as Jordan Messier flipped a long rebound over Lotz for a 2-0 final score.

Everett didn’t record a powerplay goal on five opportunities, while Tri-City was 1 for 2.

Next up for the Silvertips is their first meeting with the rival Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday night at 7:05 pm at the ShoWare Center in Kent. Everett will then return to Comcast Arena to face the Americans again on Sunday afternoon at 5:05 in their last home game before leaving on their two-week Canadian road trip through the WHL’s East Division.
