October 7, 2012, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Mount Douglas Varsity Rams continued their winning ways with an impressive 54 to 32 victory over conference rival Vancouver College last Friday evening at Royal Athletic Park.

Marcus Davis led the scoring parade with 4 touchdowns, 2 through the air, 1 on the ground and 1 on a spectacular 82 kickoff return. Mason Swift had a tremendous, gutty game reaching pay dirt with 3 majors, 2 rushing and 1 TD reception.

Brian Dowds opened the scoring with a touchdown catch from the arm of Ashton MacKinnon. Marcus Davis had 4 catches for 153 yards, Brian Dowds had 3 catches for 106 yards and Mason Swift added 2 receptions for 56 yards.

Ashton MacKinnon had another stellar game passing for 315 yards and 4 touchdowns. Mason Swift rushed for 78 yards, followed by Julian Luis with 59 yards and Ryan Yeske with 46 yards. As a team, the Varsity Rams rushed for 200 yards and with the 315 yards passing, amassed 515 total yards. Callum Duke made good on 6 of his 6 converts attempts.

Kudos to the entire Rams Offensive Line for a brilliant performance, opening up some great running lanes for the Rams backfield and allowing Ashton ample time to throw the football….awesome job Zach Wilkinson, Christian Krause, Peter Allan, Peter Elwood, Matt Power and Aarmin Purewal.

On the defensive side of the ball, there were numerous standout performances against the talented Van College offense. Leading tackler was James Nicholas with 11 tackles, followed by Julian Luis with 7 tackles. Sasha Shurvin created havoc in the Irish backfield throughout the contest registering 2 sacks in addition to his 5 tackles. Trevor Ridley also had 5 tackles, while Marcus Davis was the “Wolf of the Week” with the first turnover of the game with an interception. Sean Waugh had his best game of the year with a multiple tackle game and an interception of his own.

Special Teams played a pivotal role in the game, as the Rams had 6 kickoff returns for 258 yards including 193 yards and a touchdown from Marcus Davis on 3 returns. Mason Swift had 2 critical blocks of Van College convert attempts.

Next up is a battle of last year’s Subway Bowl as the Rams travel to the mainland to battle the Maleek Irons and the high powered Mouat Hawks on Saturday. Game time is either 1:30 pm or 2:15 pm…stay tuned!
