October 8, 2012, RED DEER, AB – Brent Sutter, Owner/President/General Manager of the Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club, announced today they have acquired 17-year old forward Christian Stockl and a 3rd round selection in the 2014 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 20-year old forward and team captain Adam Kambeitz.
The Red Deer Rebels were carrying 4, 20-year old (1992 born) players and were required to get down to the WHL maximum of 3, 20-year old players by October 11th.
Stockl was the Blades 4th round choice, 86th overall, in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and played with the Winnipeg Wild AAA Midgets last season and was a teammate of current Rebels Kevin Pochuk and Jesse Miller. He had 68 points (36-32-68) in 38 games last season.
“Adam’s been with our organization since he was 16-years old and has been our team captain since 2011” said Sutter. “This is a tough trade to make because of what he’s done for this team. But we had four 20 year olds and had to make a decision before October 11th. With Saskatoon hosting the Memorial Cup, they were looking to add a player like Adam to their lineup; in return we were looking to add more skill to our ’95 age group. In Christian Stockl we added a player that put up offence at the AAA midget level and we were also able to get back a 3rd round pick in 2014, as we gave one up in the Matt Bellerive trade earlier this season.”
