Portland Prevails Over Prince Albert 5-2

October 12, 2012, Prince Albert, SK – The Portland Winterhawks (6-3-1-0) handed the Prince Albert Raiders (7-1-0-1) their first regulation loss of the season with a 5-2 road victory Friday night.

The Hawks used a balanced attack in the win, with five different players accounting for the goals.

The Raiders opened the scoring with a goal from Davis Vandane 6:18 into the game. The Hawks tied the game at the 16:29 mark when Seth Jones took a shot from the point that went through traffic and beat Prince Albert netminder Luke Siemens to make it 1-1 going into the second period.

Late in the second, the Hawks got goals 1:33 apart from Derrick Pouliot and Taylor Leier to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.

The Raiders got back within one when Dakota Conroy scored a shorthanded goal 7:36 into the third, but the Hawks regained their two-goal lead when Adam De Champlain scored on a rebound at the 14:41 mark to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead. Portland extended the lead when Ty Rattie struck at the 17:11 mark to give the Hawks a 5-2 lead, which would stand as the final.

Rattie, Pouliot, Nic Petan and Tyler Wotherspoon all finished with two points in the win.

As they have in each game this season, the Hawks outshot their opponent, with a 40-28 advantage. Hawks netminder Mac Carruth picked up the win with 26 saves on 28 shots, while Siemens took the loss for the Raiders with 35 saves on 40 Portland shots.

The Hawks finish their six-game trip through the East Division tomorrow night when they take on the Swift Current Broncos tomorrow at 6 p.m. local time.
