October 12, 2012, VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team is bound for sunnier skies this weekend as they travel to San Marcos, a suburb of San Diego, to compete in the Cal State University San Marcos Fall Invite.

Playing the 6,535-yard Twin Oaks golf course are fourth-years James Holland (New Minas, NS) and Samuel Holland (New Minas, NS) alongside rookies Alex Cartwright (Canmore, AB), Sean Hay (Victoria, BC) and Jesse Teron (Red Deer, AB).

After a fourth-place finish in last year’s event, the Vikes will be looking to improve upon their team score of 608 while the host team, CSU-San Marcos, took the title last fall and will undoubtedly look for a repeat performance. With a large first-year contingent the Vikes will use this tournament as a yardstick for where they need to be in order to be in contention at NAIA Nationals in the spring.

“It’s a great test for these guys,” said Vikes men’s head coach Bryan Carbery. “We’re a really young group and it’s a good field in California, we’ll be playing some top-ranked NAIA teams down there.”

The Vikes tee-off this Sunday, Oct. 14, at Twin Oaks golf course in San Marcos, California, to play their first round of the CSU-San Marcos Invite.
