October 14, 2012, Saskatoon, SK – Trinity Western University Spartan Jarvis Ambaka tallied the lone goal with just two minutes left on the clock to give his team the 1-0 win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday afternoon on Field 7 in Saskatoon’s PotashCorp Park.
After back–and-forth quality chances by both teams, Trinity Western was awarded a free kick within 20 yards of the Huskie net. After bouncing around in front of the net, the ball landed on Ambaka’s foot and he was able to send it into the top left corner past a leaping Huskie keeper Mark Diakiw.
With the win, Trinity Western remains undefeated with a 7-0-2 record, while Saskatchewan drops to 5-3-2. With five matches remaining in the Canada West men’s soccer schedule, both teams are making a push to finish first in their divisions.
Both teams had opportunities to open the scoring in the match with 11 shots each.
Saskatchewan missed five close calls at the net in the match – 2011-12 Canada West All-Star Brett Levis missed the net wide twice, rookie Mitch Bauche sailed the ball high over the net and rookie striker Wilson Ntigne’s had header sail over the cross bar and a shot that missed wide.
Trinity Western keeper Evan Lowther was spectacular in the match making eight saves for the shutout. Diakiw was just as strong for theHuskies with five saves.
