October 15, 2012, Abbotsford, BC – The Mount Doug Rams and WJ Mouat Hawks hooked up last Friday in Abbotsford in a re-match of last year’s thrilling AAA Varsity Provincial Championship game and the two teams once again did not disappoint, with Mouat emerging with a 52-49 victory.

The Mount Douglas Varsity Rams and the WJ Mouat Hawks played in another game for the ages.

After 2 battles in 2011 in which the 2 teams scored a combined 100 points (53 to 47 Mouat) and 77 points (42 to 35 Rams in the 2011 Subway Bowl), the 2012 version did not disappoint if you like offense. In the end, Maleek Irons and Mouat won the contest 52 to 49. History was made and a tip of the hat deservingly goes to Irons who set a BC High School single game rushing record with 491 yards on 47 carries.

The Rams were led by 2 touchdown performances from Brian Dowds and Mason Swift. Marcus Davis, Julian Luis and Ashton MacKinnon also had majors for Mount Douglas. Mason Swift was the leading rusher for the Rams with 113 yards on 9 carries and 2 TD’s. Julian Luis chipped in with 37 yards and a major and Ashton MacKinnon had 34 yards on the ground and a TD.

Brian Dowds had a terrific game hauling in 6 receptions for 130 yards and 2 TD’s and Marcus Davis had 4 catches for 80 yards. Ashton MacKinnon was 13 for 25 in passing for 226 yards and 2 touchdown strikes. Marcus Davis added a spectacular 90 yard punt return for a major.

As a team, the Varsity Rams rushed for 196 yards and with the 226 yards passing, amassed 422 total yards of offense. Callum Duke continued his excellent kicking hitting 7 of 7 convert attempts.

On the defensive side of the ball, Mason Swift was far and away the game’s leading tackler with 16, followed by Julian Luis with 8 and Zach Wilkinson and Mitch Pearse with 5 each. Mitch Pearse also had a interception. Marcus Davis was the “Wolf of Week” recording the first turnover of the game and also had an interception of his own.

Next up for the Varsity Rams as conference play continues, is West Vancouver this Friday at Royal Athletic Park. This being final regular season home game also marks Senior Day for graduating players. Game time is at 3:30 pm but there will be a short ceremony for each of the nine (9) graduating players. The Junior Varsity Rams also host West Van Friday with their game at 1:00 pm.
