October 16, 2012, Victoria, BC – Hot on the heels of being signed to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds baseball team for 2013, Victoria Mariner pitcher Mackenzie Catto has been named to the 2012 POWER SHOWCASE All-World Baseball Team.
The 6’9″, 22o lb. right-hander will proudly represent Canada in a game that will feature the most prolific (40) amateur prospects in the world at on December 27th-30th at the Miami Marlins new ball park in Florida.
Players were selected by POWER SHOWCASE based on their abilities, power, scout references and high school and showcase tournament performance. In Canada, Catto plays for the Victoria Mariners coached by Mike Chewpoy (former HS coach of Michael Saunders of the Seattle Mariners & Jesse Hodges of the Chicago Cubs organization) in the British Columbia Premier Baseball League.
Off the diamond, Catto also plays a prominent role as a dominating post player on the St. Michaels University School Varsity basketball team coached by Ian Hyde-Lay (former HS coach of two time NBA MVP Steve Nash at SMUS) as well as an impact player on the first 15 rugby team. Catto has been named player of the game and tournament on many occasions throughout his high school years.
A very good student academically (3.6 GPA), CATTO has also taken a role in student government via athletics council as well as free the children and “Walk for Water”. Catto is also involved in the community by giving back to his local minor baseball association by way of coaching young players. For his efforts, numerous coaches and parents have commented on his fine contribution to the development of local baseball.
Mac not only strives to succeed on the field and in the classroom but also in the community. He manages his time very effectively in order to be successful.
Catto plays for the MVP Baseball travel team from Santa Barbara CA during the summer, coached by Bill Bowman. This summer Catto played at the 17u WWBA National Championship in East Cobb, GA.
