October 16, 2012, VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes’ men’s golf team is heading into their third round of play in the Cal State University San Marcos Invitational at Twin Oaks golf course with a team score of 595 and in fifth place on the leaderboard.
The Vikes sit 24 points back from host team, first-place CSU-San Marcos.
Leading the Vikes is rookie Jesse Teron (Red Deer, AB) who shot a first round of 71 and a second round of 74 and is currently tied for seventeenth. Teron completed day one of the tournament with nine birdies in the two rounds of eighteen and, finishing with a plus-1, will be looking to break even on the final day. Next on the leaderboard for the Vikes is Samuel Holland (New Minas, NS) tied for 20th after two rounds of a steady 73 and finishing plus-2.
Rounding out the Vikes contingent is first-year Alex Cartwright (Canmore, AB) tied for 38th with a plus-8, fellow rookie, Sean Hay (Victoria, BC), is in 42nd with a plus-11. Tied for 43rd is fourth-year James Holland (New Minas, NS) with a plus-12.
“It was prime scoring conditions for the morning round, no wind and really calm,” said men’s golf team assistant coach Justin Clews. “The team started off pretty steady but made some mistakes in the back nine. In the afternoon round some fatigue started to set in halfway through and they had a bit of trouble finishing.”
The Vikes begin their third and final round today at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, California.
