October 17, 2012, Victoria, BC – The Co-op Women’s soccer team defeated Westside 5 nil last Saturday at U-Vic in Metro Women’s League action.

Kristen Livingstone scored 3 goals in the first half.  The Lady Highlanders got off to a slow start and Westside had them penned in for the first 10 minutes of the game.

After weathering the storm, the Co-op managed to put together a number of passes and fashioned a goal on a scramble in the goalmouth. Heather Christie was composed enough to lay off the ball to Kristen and she netted her first at the 20 minute mark.

8 minutes later Elise Butler played through a penetrating pass resulting in a well timed run by Livingstone splitting the 2 centre backs and slotting the ball home against a charging Westside ‘keeper. 7 minutes later and another through ball, this time by Liz Hanson and Kristen was away again, slamming the ball past the ‘keeper, and netting 3 goals in 15 minutes to break open the game.

At half time, Coach Dave Dew made a number of changes and brought in Marysa Reicheld and “Meise” put her stamp on the game 10 minutes into the half scoring on a low driven cross by Soraya Rizzo, from 2 yards out. Meise decided to chase Livingstone’s goal explosion with a second of her own, burying a pass from Heather Christie to complete her brace.

A solid performance by all players after a slow start and the team looks forward to their next game this Sunday in Vancouver against Premier B side Total Soccer Systems.
