October 17, 2012, VICTORIA, B.C. – After playing three rounds of Twin Oaks golf course in San Marcos, C.A., the University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team wrapped up the Cal State University San Marcos Invite in fifth place.

The men carded a team score of 883 after breaking even in their final round for 288. Overall, the Vikes finished plus-19 and 33 strokes back of first-place hosts CSU-San Marcos.

The best tournament finish for the Vikes was rookie Jesse Teron (Red Deer, AB), as he carded a 72 and broke even on his final round to finish the tournament tied for 18th on the individual leaderboard. Tied for 28th, fourth-year Samuel Holland (New Minas, NS) fired a 76 on the final eighteen for a tournament score of 222. Sean Hay (Victoria, BC) and James Holland (New Minas, NS) carded the best final rounds for the Vikes contingent with a pair of 70s while Alex Cartwright (Canmore, AB) fired a 77 to finish tied for 41st.

“The boys really bounced back today,” said Justin Clews, assistant coach of the Vikes men’s golf team. “James and Sean both shot minus-2 so that was great. I definitely think we made some improvements as we went.”

Next up for the Vikes men’s golf team is a chance to host the Vikes Golf Shootout at Cordova Bay golf course Oct. 21-23.
