September 20,2012, Victoria, BC – The Velox Valkyries have been on a roll lately and Saturday’s matchup with the Cowichan RFC was a chance for a little redemption after a season opening 41-14 loss on September 8th. The Valkyries team is not the same one as a month and a half ago and they showed it downing Cowichan 66-0.

Saturday’s game showed just how far this team has come in a short period of time as they completely dominated in all facets of the game.

While the offensive side of the game has been highlighted in lopsided scores, Saturday was a game where the defensive side of the game really shone through. The Valkyries tacklers gave Cowichan little space to put any phases together and dealt some bone crunching hits through out the day.

Monique Boag lead all scorers with 21 points off 3 tries and 3 conversions, while Elissa Alarie also added 3 tries, Lynzi Anderson, Brittany Sims and Karen Battie finished the day with a pair of tries each to round out the scoring.

For a team that was supposed to be rebuilding, after losing the majority of its starters from last season’s Championship team to both retirement and injury, the Valkyries look more like they have reloaded. Some key additions along with a focus on a well-rounded game plan has the Valkyries right back on top of the standings at 5-1.

The Valkyries finish off the month of October with a trip to Nanaimo next Saturday to battle the 2nd place Hornets.
