Women’s Eight Set to Reunite in Boston

October 19, 2012, Ottawa, ON – Canada’s 2012 silver-medal women’s eight will compete this weekend on the Charles River in Boston at the annual Head of the Charles Regatta.

The Charles eight – all from the silver-medal Olympic boat – is Janine Hanson of Winnipeg, Man., Rachelle Viinberg of Regina, Sask., Krista Guloien of Port Moody, B.C., Lauren Wilkinson of North Vancouver, B.C., Natalie Mastracci of Thorold, Ont., Ashley Brzozowicz of London, Ont., Darcy Marquardt of Richmond, B.C., Andréanne Morin of Montreal, QC, and cox Lesley Thompson-Willie of London, Ont.

It is estimated that approximately 40 Olympians from various countries will compete in the Championship Women’s Eight event on Sunday this year.

Rowing Canada’s London Training Centre is also entered the coxed four event. This crew is Jen Martins of Toronto, Rosie DeBoef of Victoria, Carolyn Ganes of Saskatoon, Sask., Sarah Black of Ottawa, Ont. and coxswain Kristen Kit of St. Catharines, Ont.

Also, there will be a training centre women’s double of Emily Cameron of Summerside, PEI, and Kerry Shaffer of Welland, Ont.

The Head Of The Charles Regatta began in 1965, and attracts more than 9,000 athletes and 300,000 spectators.

Competing are rowers of all ages from club level, including many Canadian clubs, to Olympians.
