October 26, 2012, Prince George, B.C. — The Cariboo Cougars make one of their longest road trips of the year this weekend visiting the North Island Silvertips in Nanaimo Saturday and Sunday.

The Cats are coming off a dominating performance at home last weekend outscoring the visiting Kootenay Ice a combined 18-2. The Silvertips meanwhile are looking for a rebound after struggling to a single point weekend in a 5-3 loss and a 3-3 tie against the South Island Royals.

The 4-3-1 Tips sit sixth in the standings and will have to rely on their solid defensive play in order to come away with anything against the Cougars. North Island has allowed just 24 goals against so far this season, second best in the BCMML. The Cougars meanwhile have scored a whopping 55 times in 10 games, just one behind the idle Okanagan Rockets for the league lead.

The Cats have a chance to take the league lead in the standings with the Rockets on a bye week, while the Vancouver NW Giants are right on the Cats tail as they play a home and home series this weekend with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

Last season the Cougars won a tight season series with the Silvertips, 2-1-1.

Several Cougars enter this weekend on a hot streak, most notably forward Tyler Povelofskie who has seven goals in his last three games.

Puckdrop Saturday against the Silvertips is set for 5:15pm while Sunday’s rematch goes at 10:30am. Both games are being played at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, and both will be available via live webcast at
