October 28, 2012, Vancouver, BC – In what started out more more like a high school track meet than a football game, the Mount Douglas Varsity Rams defeated Notre Dame by a score of 63 to 38 in BC High School AAA Varsity football action last Friday.

With the victory the Rams are one win away from from clinching the AAA Western Conference Title and their best ever regular season.

Notre Dame busted out the gates fast and took an early 10 to 0 lead but by the end of the 1st half, 87 points had been scored with Rams on top by a score of 49 to 38. In the 2nd half, the Rams defense stiffened and kept Notre Dame off the score sheet while the offense added 2 more majors en route to the 63 to 38 win.

The Rams were led by the trio of Marcus Davis, Brian Dowds and Ashton MacKinnon along with solid play once again from the Offensive Line. Marcus Davis had 2 rushing majors, 1 TD reception and a spectacular 92 punt return for another touchdown. Brian Dowds was amazing with 4 touchdown catches and Ashton MacKinnon was outstanding with 6 TD passes plus 91 yards of his own rushing the football.

Noah Harris had a sparkling 13 yard TD reception for the Varsity Rams. Mitch Pearse caught a 2 point convert pass and Callum Duke was good on 7 of 8 convert attempts to round out the scoring for the Rams.

Ashton MacKinnon was the leading rusher for the Rams with 91 yards on only 6 carries followed by Julian Luis with 85 yards on 10 carries and Archie Acosta racking up 57 yards on just 3 carries.

As a team, the Rams rumbled for 290 rushing yards. Brian Dowds collected 132 receiving yards, followed by Marcus Davis with 114 yards and Noah Harris with 33 yards. Ashton MacKinnon was 17 for 22 in passing for 288 yards. Marcus Davis ended the contest with 270 all purpose yards (rushing, receiving & kick returns). As a team, the Varsity Rams amassed 591 total yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Mitch Pearse was a standout recording 7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception. Peter Elwood tied Mitch for the team lead in tackles with 7 followed by Peter Allan with 6, Zach Wilkinson with 4 and Marcus Davis with 4. Marcus was also the “Wolf of the Week” with the Rams 1st turnover coming via an interception. Sean Waugh chipped in with a fumble recovery forced by Trevor Ridley.

Next up for the Varsity Rams is New West, as again the Rams look to clinch the Western Conference title and their best ever AAA Varsity regular season. Game time as been adjusted to 3:30 pm this Friday November 2nd at Mercer Stadium. The JV’s are also in action this Thursday November 1st at 3:30 pm at Mercer Stadium.
