EDMONTON – Calgary Dinos hockey defenceman Stephanie Ramsay and Colton deMan of the Mount Royal Cougars volleyball team are Canada West Athletes of the Week.

FEMALE: #23 Stephanie Ramsay, Calgary (hockey)

All-Canadian defenceman Stephanie Ramsay was a big contributor offensively as the No. 1-ranked Calgary Dinos improved to 7-0-1 on the season with a sweep of the Manitoba Bisons last weekend in Winnnipeg.

Again leading all Canada West defencemen with nine points in eight games, Ramsay had a four-point weekend against the Bisons. Friday night, she potted two goals and an assist, earning second-star honours in a 5-1 victory. A night later, Ramsay scored the game-winning goal 7:12 into the third period as the Dinos finished the sweep with a 4-1 win.

Ramsay will face off against her former team this weekend when the Dinos and Alberta Pandas play a two-game set at Father David Bauer Arena.

MALE: #8 Colton deMan, Mount Royal (volleyball)

Fourth-year Mount Royal University outside hitter Colton deMan was nearly unstoppable, helping the Cougars capture their first Canada West victory against the University of Calgary Dinos (25-22, 27-25, 17-25, 23-25, 15-12).

In Friday’s win, deMan was a force to be reckoned with, hammering home a game-high 25 kills on 56 swings, 11 more kills than the next highest attacker on the night. He rounded out his stat line posting 12 digs and two service aces as the Cougars claimed their first-ever CIS win.

Despite dropping to the Dinos on Saturday in five sets, deMan was once again the offensive catalyst for the Cougars, posting another game-high 16 kills along with six digs and a service ace.

A Bachelor of Business student at MRU, deMan and the Cougars will look to continue keep the offence rolling when they head to the University of Winnipeg Nov.2-3.
