November 5, 2012, Richmond, B.C. – The PGA of British Columbia is proud to announce the development of two additional recognition awards in 2012, available for members and patrons of the PGA of BC Community.

In partnership with long-time PGA of BC supporter Forestar Golf Sales Ltd., 2012 will see the launch of the inaugural Forestar Golf Community Leadership Bursary, recognizing an individual who demonstrates an extraordinary desire and passion in using their unique gifts and abilities to give back to their communities. The $1,500 contribution will be used to help develop or aid existing programs that give back to the game of golf.

“We are excited to create this additional program with the PGA of British Columbia and have this opportunity to recognize an individual who demonstrates exceptional leadership in their community” says President of Forestar Golf Sales Ltd., Keith Brown. “Understanding the aspirations and vision of many of the current programs in place, Forestar Golf is confident that the recipient of this bursary will put these funds to great use” adds Brown.

In honour of the late Jim Gibson, the PGA of BC also announces the development of a $1,500 scholarship as a tribute to the commitment and dedication of the long-time ambassador of the Association. The Jim Gibson Scholarship will recognize an individual of the PGA of BC Community that best exemplifies volunteerism and continues to showcase dedication in furthering their education to benefit others in their community.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, the PGA of BC is proud to create this scholarship in honour of Mr. Gibson, who had given back so much to the Association throughout the years” says Donald Miyazaki, Executive Director of the PGA of British Columbia. “Mr. Gibson was an ambassador of golf in British Columbia, valued the influence of scholastics and creating this opportunity to further one’s education is a great way to honour the legacy of his name.”

Eligibility for both awards requires applicants to be members of the PGA of British Columbia in good standing or be a resident of British Columbia referred by PGA of BC Class “A” Professional. Applications are currently being accepted, with a closing date of January 15, 2013. Recipients of both awards will be recognized in conjunction with the 2012 PGA of BC Awards Celebration, held February 18, 2013 in Vancouver, BC.
