November 5, 2012, Cloverdale, BC – 2013 marks the return of the BC Scotties to Cloverdale.  The Cloverdale Curling Club in Surrey were hosts of the Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western, back in January 2011 and they are preparing for another busy event.

The championship starts on January 14 and culminates on January 20, with the semi-finals (January 19) and finals (January 20) televised on Shaw TV.

Cloverdale Manager Judy MacKinnon said everyone at the club really enjoyed hosting the event in 2011.

She said: “In January 2013 we are looking forward to welcoming the return of the curlers, fans and sponsors as well as showcasing the City of Surrey and the community of Cloverdale.”

She added: “We have a great facility and we have excellent ice. I think hosting the event in 2011 put the Cloverdale Curling Club on the curling fan and curler map, so we’re happy to have the Scotties return.”

Super skip Kelly Scott, who won at Cloverdale in 2011, will be back in action with a slightly different team line-up to the winning team from that year. Lead Sarah Wazney will be on the team in place of Jacquie Armstrong.

The remaining competing teams have yet to be decided.

The Cloverdale Curling Club (formally the Valley Curling Club) was formed in 1954 and has six sheets of ice. It is the home of past champions Craig Lepine (BC Mixed Champion), Karin Lepine (BC Mixed & Canadian Senior Women’s silver medalist), Caroline Koehler (BC Master Women’s Champion) and Tyler Klymchuk (BC Junior Men’s Champion).
