November 9, 2012, Spokane, WA – The Blazers (17-3-0-1) didn’t have what it took to beat the Chiefs (14-6-0-0) as they fell 5-2 in Spokane. The Chiefs were led by Todd Fiddler who had a goal and two assists and goaltender Eric Williams who was solid making 32 saves for the victory.

The Blazers had a good start in this one as they struck for a goal 2:36 into the game. Matt Needham fed Jordan DePape who scored his fourth goal of the season to make it 1-0 Blazers. The Chiefs replied late in the period as Todd Fiddler was given a shorthanded breakaway. Brenden Kichton cleared the puck and defenseman Tyler Hansen batted it down right on Fiddler’s stick as he scored his 12th goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1 with just over two minutes to play in the period.

The Blazers got a four-minute power play to start the second period as Jordan DePape was high-sticked in the Chiefs zone to end the first period. JC Lipon gave the Blazers the lead back as he came streaking in and fired a shot over goaltender Eric Williams for his league leading 17th goal to make it 2-1 Blazers. The lead lasted 19 seconds as the Chiefs won a puck battle down low, took it to the net, and Mitch Holmberg put home a rebound to tie the game at 2-2. The Blazers had a good second period, but couldn’t find a way to beat goaltender Eric Williams.

In the third period, the Chiefs were the more desparate team. A turnover in the defensive zone led to Brenden Kichton setting up Riley Whittingham for his first goal of the season 7:30 into the period. Cole Wedman made it 4-2 only 57 seconds later as he put it in an open net after goaltender Cole Cheveldave was taken out on the play. The Chiefs added one more late goal to win the game 5-2.

The Blazers were 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. The Blazers outshot the Chiefs 34-23 in the game as Cole Cheveldave took the loss making 18 saves. Brendan Ranford had two assists for the Blazers.

The Blazers get right back at it tomorrow night as they travel to Tri-City to play the Americans tomorrow night at 7:00pm.
