November 16, 2012, Saskatchewan, (ISN) – University of Saskatchewan’s Danny Stone tallied at 12:28 in the third period to give the Huskies a 2-1 victory over the visiting No. 2 University of Calgary Dinos Friday night in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.
Calgary turned over the puck in neutral zone allowing Huskie captain Cara Wooster to find Stone streaking into the Dinos’ zone. The fifth-year’s shot beat Dinos’ goaltender Amanda Tapp top shelf, short side for the win.
With the win, the Huskies move to 3-6-2 on the season, while Calgary drops to 8-2-1.
Canada West leading scorer Iya Gavrilova capitalized on a Huskie mistake on the power play to open the scoring. She tallied short handed at 14:04 in the first period. Wooster tied the game at 7:36 in the second period on a backhanded shot in front ofTapp.
Rookie netminder Cassidy Hendricks made 28 saves in her second CIS win, while Tapp made 23 saves in the loss at the other end of the ice for Calgary.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
