DeGoede named Provost winner, 58 student-athletes named to Vikes Honour Roll

November 20, 2012, VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes celebrated the announcement of 58 student-athletes being named to the 2012 Freedom 55 Financial Vikes Honour Roll list on Tuesday at the University of Victoria’s Faculty Club on campus.  In addition, fourth-year women’s soccer player Olivia deGoede (Victoria, BC)was named the 2012 Provost Award winner.

A Victoria native, DeGoede has been a goalkeeper with the Vikes women’s soccer program, which recently won a bronze medal at the CIS national championship, Nov. 11. DeGoede is majoring in BIology and completed the 2011-12 academic year with an 8.90 GPA. Dr. Reeta Tremblay, Vice-President and Academic Provost, helped present the award at the Honour Roll Luncheon on Nov. 20.

The Honour Roll Luncheon was supported by Freedom 55 Financial and were represented at the event by Mr. Chris Johnstone, Director of Business Development, as well as Mr. Ried McGruer, Regional Director.

“We are proud of our committment to the Vikes Athletics program and the opportunity to support student atheltes,” said Johstone at the luncheon event. “Our mission is to set the standard on and off the field and our office is filled with former varsity athletes. As a student athlete your hard work, committment and dedication makes you a winner. We’ve aligned Freedom 55 Financial because we, ourselves, are also winners.”

In addition to deGoede’s honour, 58 student-athletes were recognized as Vikes Honour Roll recipients, who are students who achieved 80 per cent or higher in the classroom for 2011-12. Across all eight faculties, Vikes student-athletes were recognized and presented a certificate from the Dean or other representative of their faculty.
