November 21, 2012, TORONTO – The Etobicoke Olympium will welcome 13 of Canada’s 2012 Olympic swimmers competing in the Canada Cup on Friday and Saturday.
Hosted by Etobicoke Swimming in conjunction with Swimming Canada, the Canada Cup features 325 registered swimmers from across Canada.
Olympians Savannah King, Brittany MacLean, Tommy Gossland, Andrew Ford, Samantha Cheverton, Sinead Russell, Alexa Komarnycky, Julia Wilkinson, Tera van Beilen, Katerine Savard, Martha McCabe, David Sharpe, and Blake Worsley are among the registered competitors.
The short course meet will include 34 events split evenly over the two days at the Olympium (590 Rathburn Road). A total of 63 clubs from nine provinces will be represented.
Heats begin at 10 a.m. each day with finals and award ceremonies beginning each evening at 5:45 p.m.
On Friday Swimming Canada will be presenting its Individual Stroke Awards to the Swimmers of the Year. On Saturday the Youth and JuniorSwimmers of the Year will receive awards along with their coaches. Saturdaywill also feature the presentation of the Victor Davis Awards, as several young swimmers will receive bursaries from the Victor Davis Memorial Fund to further their educations.
