November 23, 2012, Saskachewan, (ISN) –  On the strength of a strong third quarter, the No. 9 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies recorded a 72-62 victory over the visiting No. 10 UBC Thunderbirds Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.

Leading by 10 at halftime, the Huskies found a stride in the third quarter scoring 26 points in the frame to take a 58-39 lead. UBC attempted to mount a comeback in the final quarter pulling the game to within 11 points but the large lead built by the Huskies in the third was too much for the T-Birds to overcome.

With the win the Huskies improve to 3-4, while Thunderbirds, who are now on a three game losing skid, drop to 4-3.

UBC never had the lead in the game. The Huskies led 15-11 after the first and 32-24 at halftime.

The Huskies finished the game shooting 49%, wile the T-Birds shot 41% in the loss. Saskatchewan also won the battle on the boards out rebounding the Thunderbirds 35-29.

Dalyce Emmerson led the Huskies with a double-double on the night recording 20 points and 12 rebounds. Rookie Desarae Hogberg was also strong in the game with 13 points, while Kiera Lyons added another 10 for the Huskies.

Kris Young led the T-Birds in the game with a double-double scoring 21 points and nabbing 10 rebounds. Leigh Stansfield added another 14 points for UBC.

The Huskies host the Victoria Vikes Saturday night, while the Thunderbirds travel to Edmonton to meet the Alberta Pandas. Tipoff in Saskatoon is at 6:15 p.m. The game can be watched at
