November 25, 2012, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – Keegan Lowe notched an overtime winner with one second to play as the Oil Kings took a 2-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday. The overtime win was the Oil Kings first victory in extra time this season after a pair of shoot out losses and a pair of overtime defeats.
The Kings opened the scoring five minutes into the second period as Henrik Samuelsson notched his 12th of the season on a Curtis Lazar rebound. Lazar made some moves in the slot and put the puck to the front of the net where Samuelsson spun and put home the rebound.
Edmonton carried the 1-0 lead into the third period when the Tigers tallied an equalizer on the power play. Dylan Bredo made it a 1-1 game with under seven minutes to play to break the shut out. The power play goal was the first the Oil Kings number one ranked penalty kill has allowed in the last ten games. Edmonton was able to hold Medicine Hat to 1 for 5 on the night with the man advantage.
The Oil Kings pressed for a game winner late in the third including a shot from Lowe which found the cross bar behind former Oil Kings goaltender Cam Lanigan. Lanigan stood tall for the Tigers to force overtime, finishing his night with a 45 save performance.
The home side had several chances to end the game in the extra period but could not solve Lanigan once again. Finally Lowe then sent the nearly 9000 fans at Rexall Place home happy as he took a perfect feed from Michael St.Croix and beat the clock for the overtime winner.
Tristan Jarry continues to produce as he improved his record to 5-3-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and a 0.938 save percentage. The Kings record improved to 13-1-1-0 when leading after the second period. The victory was the Oil Kings 10th at home in the 2012-13 season. Edmonton’s record moves to 16-5-2-2 on the season as they end their weekend a single point behind Calgary for first place in the Central Division.
