November 26, 2012, Victoria, BC – After their dominating 41-15 win over the WJ Mouat Hawks last Saturday, the Mount Doug Rams Varsity Rams are set to defend their BC High School Football AAA Provincial title this coming Saturday December 1st as they take on Vancouver College for all the marbles in the 2012 Subway Bowl.  Game time is 7:00 pm at BC Place in Vancouver.

On Saturday, the Varsity Rams put forth a swarming and smothering defensive effort against running back Maleek Irons and the talented WJ Mouat Hawks. Coupled with an excellent offensive performance, strong special teams play and an aggressive start, the Rams exploded for an early 21 to 0 lead only 8 minutes into the game and never looked back en route to the 41 to 15 victory.

After the stellar Rams defense forced Mouat on a 3-and-out on their first possession, Marcus Davis exploded for a 75 yard run on Mount Douglas’s opening play from scrimmage. What followed was 2 perfectly executed hard squib kicks by Callum Duke off the front line of Mouat which were both recovered by Stephan Lechinsky. The Rams pounded out 2 long TD drives as a result and a shocking 21 to 0 lead.

The Rams defense continue to stifle Mouat as the Rams built up a 28-0 halftime lead and a 41-0 lead in the 3rd quarter and ultimately the victory.

Marcus Davis led the scoring for the Rams with 3 touchdowns, on runs of 75 yards and 20 yards and a 16 yard pass from the arm of Ashton MacKinnon. Mason Swift had 2 TD’s on runs of 4 yards and 17 yards, and Brian Dowds had a 27 yard TD reception from Ashton MacKinnon.

The Rams Offensive Line was nothing short of stellar as Mount Douglas rushed for an amazing 406 yards and gave Ashton MacKinnon great protection and ample time to throw.

The duo of Marcus Davis and Mason Swift rushed for 177 yards and 167 yards, respectively. Brian Dowds hauled in 4 receptions for 70 yards and a TD, while Marcus Davis collected 3 catches for 52 yards and 1 touchdown.

Ashton MacKinnon was sparkling completing 9 of 14 passes for 139 yards and 2 TD strikes and added 30 yards on the ground. Callum Duke was a perfect 5 for 5 in converts, in addition to his perfectly executed hard squib kicks. As a team, the Rams rushed for 406 yards and collected 139 through the air for impressive 545 total yards.

The Rams defense played amazing across the board and throughout the contest against a Mouat team that had gone the entire year crushing any defense they faced up to this point. Marcus Davis led Mount Douglas in tackles with 5 and added 2 sacks. Sean Waugh was 2nd with 4 tackles, followed by Brian Dowds, Mason Swift, Sasha Shurvin and James Nicholas with 3 tackles. In addition to Marcus’s 2 sacks, Sasha Shurvin and James Nicholas each registered a sack. And again, Stephan Lechinsky was huge with the 2 fumble recoveries of the hard squib kicks.

With the win, the Varsity Rams face their biggest rival, that being the Golden Domes of Vancouver College in the 2012 Subway Bowl on Saturday December 1st at 7:00 pm at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.
